Alternativa aktiemarknaden (the Alternative stockmarket) is a meeting place for business angels and other investors with the main business to organise trading in small and medium sized companies. We list companies with an existing ownership distribution and match buyers' and sellers' bids and offers. Alternativa aktiemarknaden is formally a securities institution under the supervision of the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority.
By the means of the market place Alternativa, unlisted companies are proposed to adopt a more dynamic financial management which is adapted to the needs of their present and potential shareholders.
Trading on Alternativa aktiemarknaden is conducted on certain predetermined days, at the most once a month. The size and ownership of the companies makes continuous pricing unsuitable, so the price is determined by an auction model, alternatively by a special Market advisory committee. On each trading day, the stock is traded at one price. In between the monthly trading periods, larger trades are matched if buyers and sellers show interest.
Alternativa was established in 2003 and the share is since December 2006 traded at Alternativas own list. Late 2006 Alternativa started, together with Swedish and French investors, a company in Paris with the purpose to setting up a similar business in France. Alternativa France had its first tradingperiod in early december 2007 and is governed by the new European Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) and is supervised by the French Financial Supervisory Authority AMF (Autorité des Marchés Financiers) and by the French Central Bank Banque de France.
