Alternativa Sweden is a trading platform under the supervision of the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority. The main business is to organize trading of stocks in unlisted companies. A listing on Alternativa can be an excellent way to accelerate the company’s development. By the means of the market place Alternativa, unlisted companies are proposed to adopt a more dynamic financial management which is adapted to the needs of their present and potential shareholders.
The size and ownership of the companies makes continuous trading unsuitable. Trading is therefore conducted on certain predetermined days, at the most once a month with a specially designed price discovery method using an auction model. In between the monthly trading periods, larger trades are matched if buyers and sellers show interest.
Late 2006 Alternativa started, together with Swedish and French investors, a company in Paris with the purpose to set up a similar business in France. In June 2007 Alternativa France got a licence from the French financial authorities and the business is up and running since December 10, 2007.
